Health & Well-Being Events in Bolton

Health and Wellbeing Events Bolton

We were delighted that over 76 people attended the first cancer health and wellbeing event back in March, and were able to hear first-hand what support is available for people affected by cancer in Bolton and the importance of living a healthy life style.

With around 1,350 people per year in Bolton, diagnosed with cancer and increasing numbers of people living with and beyond cancer, the Bolton Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Service and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust recognised the long term health and wellbeing needs of people affected by cancer and joined forces to host the event.

Healthcare professionals, local organisations and support services were on hand to offer practical, emotional and social support and advice. Following the success of the event, we are planning to run at least two events every year.  The aim of the event is to support people in adjusting to life, for those living with or beyond cancer.

Sue Summerfield, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service Manager said:

“We’re so very grateful to all those who attended and supported our first event, which has provided a stepping stone towards ensuring people affected by cancer in Bolton have easy access to the support they need to adapt to a life with and beyond cancer. We received very positive feedback from those who attended in March, which will help us to shape future events”.

Janet Keegan, Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse said:

“It’s great news that people are living longer after a cancer diagnosis but we need to support people to help them manage the long term impact and put a greater focus on recovery, and health and wellbeing after treatment. It was a real privilege to speak to patients, their families and friends who attended the event and to hear how valuable they found the whole afternoon.”
